A suspect is in custody after exchanging gunfire with a Jasper County deputy Monday morning during an investigation into reports that he had shot at a family member. The deputy responded to a call at 255 County Road 190 in northern Jasper County. During the investigation, the suspect fled on foot, leading the deputy on a chase. Authorities say the suspect fired at the deputy during the pursuit, and the deputy returned fire. Neither the deputy nor the suspect was struck. The suspect was later taken into custody.
