New details have emerged after news broke on Wednesday (April 9) that Jillian Lauren Shriner, author and wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot by police during a shootout.
As previously reported, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon (April 8). when LAPD responded to a hit-and-run on the freeway in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles. Three suspects fled the scene by foot, with one climbing over the freeway embankment and running through a residential street.
Officers set up barricades and blocked off streets as they searched for the suspect. The street happened to be the one the Shriners live on. According to a news release, Jillian emerged from her house with a gun in hand and after being instructed to drop her weapon, things escalated.
“Shriner then pointed the handgun at the officers; at that point, an officer-involved shooting occurred,” the news release states.
After getting shot, Jillian ran back inside her house. Thirty minutes later, she and her babysitter came back outside and surrendered to police. Jillian was taken to the hospital and booked for attempted murder. The suspect was eventually caught; however, the other two are still at large.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jillian posted a $1 million bond on Thursday (April 10) and was released from jail. Her manager, Charlie Fusco, told the outlet that Jillian is "alive and well" but had no other comments.
Jillian and Scott have been married since 2005 and have two adopted sons. The incident happened just days before Weezer are set to perform at Coachella. Despite the scary incident, the band is still reportedly performing on Saturday (April 12).
