Tony Iommi, Robert Plant Spotted Chatting At Nashville Airport

56th GRAMMY Awards - Show

It's unclear what two bonafide rock gods were doing in Nashville last week, but the image of Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi and Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant chatting at the airport is something that'll be hard for fans of either band to forget.

Black Sabbath fan site Black Sabbath Online shared a photo Saturday the clearly showed the two Rock and Roll Hall of Famers catching up an their gate.

While Iommi has been talking about preparing a solo album since retiring Black Sabbath in 2017, but he indicated in a social post last week that he was Stateside recently, not to write and record music, but to visit his longtime equipment partner, Gibson Guitars.

"I've had a great time in Nashville this week visiting Gibson," Iommi wrote in a December 5 Facebook post. "Thanks to Cesar [Gueikian, Gibson Guitars CMO] for the invite, the company is in safe hands!"

Plant did not make any mention publicly of his Nashville trip, though it would surprise no one if the prolific front man was working on new music. His last album, 2017's Carry Fire, was his eleventh solo album.

Beyond Iommi and Plant's connection as being leaders of two of the most important hard rock bands of all-time, the pair are old pals. Led Zeppelin was fascinated by Black Sabbath and used to crash their rehearsals in the mid-'70s. Recordings of those sessions might as well be rock's holy grail.

But the admiration was mutual, Iommi said in a recent interview that he always wished he wrote Zeppelin's "Kashmir."

The guitarist has spoken often about hoping to collaborate with Judas Priest's Rob Halford someday, but fans would be equally fascinated to hear what Iommi and Plant could cook up.
