Man From Orange Sentenced To 36 Years In Prison

A man that crashed his pickup into the back of a disabled vehicle killing a 2-year old girl

and a man that had stopped to assist has been sentenced to 36 years in prison. In May of

2018, 46-year old Pedro Jose Soza-Orozco of Groves, stopped to assist a family that had broken

down on I-10 in Orange County. A pickup struck the disabled vehicle killing Orozco and

2-year old Kaleigha Horne, who was in the vehicle. The driver of the pickup, Steven Shonn

Smith, of Orange, has been sentenced to two 18 year for intoxication manslaughter sentences that

will run consecutively. He will have to serve at least serve at least 18 years before he is eligible

for parole. Smith was also sentenced to three 20 year sentences for aggravated assault with a

deadly weapon. Those sentences will run concurrently.
