Billy Corgan's Not Happy About the "Baby It's Cold Outside" Ban

In light of the #MeToo movement, several radio stations have decided to remove "Baby, It's Cold Outside" from their rotation. Those against the song argue it promotes rape culture with the male character pushing the woman, despite her numerous attempts at saying "no."

Though many are onboard with the song's banishment, there's one man in particular who doesn't agree. That man is Billy Corgan. The Smashing Pumpkins frontman voiced his opinion during a recent Instagram story Q&A with fans.

Baby It’s Cold Outside getting banned on North American radio: What the hell is wrong with people?

“Enjoy the world that’s coming.”

Surprised to see first ‘baby it’s cold outside’ moan here – listen 2 the lyrics!

“So when Mick sang ‘she’s only 14 years old’ in Stray Cat Blues is that on your list, too, Bad Santa? GTFOOH.”

You noted Shiny was a collection of singles. Will Vol 2 follow more of a narrative?

“Vol 2 will be the full kit and kaboodle. Go big or go home cause baby it’s cold outside.”

Corgan's actually contributed to the Christmas music canon himself. He wrote a song called "Christmastime" in 1997 for A Very Special Christmas compilation, and it's pretty whimsical. And that's not all, Smashing Pumpkins may be spreading yuletide cheer with a full holiday album sometimes soon.
