Bruce Dickinson Slams Celebrity Culture: Iron Maiden Has Accomplishments

Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson says the band is as big as it's ever been, despite the fact that it has always existed outside of mainstream celebrity culture.

"Hopefully if we end up having any notoriety, it's because we've actually done something, as opposed to having plastic surgery or whatever...or turning up to the opening of an envelope," Dickinson told Charlie Rose.

The singer says Iron Maiden has always been good to its fans and done as much as possible to remove the barriers between the audience and the performer.

"We tour very intensely and we—I hope—do really good shows. And we engage as much as possible with our audience, which is increasing."

Dickinson went on to compare Iron Maiden's live audiences in the '80s to its audiences today, pointing specifically to New York City.

"Years ago in the '80s, we did one show in the New York area—maybe two. We're now doing four, so we're twice that size. And it's a global band. So our niche has grown."
