BISD Superintendent Dr. Timothy Chargois presented the school board with additional cost cutting measures last night. Among the recommendations are reducing the district’s contribution to employee health plans by $131 a per month, eliminating busing for after school programs and activities for an estimated savings of $1 million, eliminating drivers education and reduction in other service areas that could save another $6.6 million. The district recently declared a financial exigency that could lead to up to 300 layoffs. Those
layoff notices are expected to be sent out by the end of the month.
