Beaumont Animal Services reports a 16-year old boy was bitten by a bat over the weekend. The teen was removing what he thought was a lifeless bat from a swimming pool on Shady Lane when the bat bit him and flew off. Animal Services want to remind citizens if you find an injured, sick, or dead bat do not touch it as they have the potential to carry rabies. Bats are highly beneficial to the ecosystem, with a single bat being able to catch more than 1,000 mosquito type insects in one hour.
